Well researched and thought out.You could have added Perplexity also in this.

I ran some sampling tests with Perplexity and the answer was almost unanimously "Stoicism"

I though this was a pretty cool experiment. Perhaps a follow up could determine if they really mean it - ask them ethical and philosophical questions and see if the answers, devoid of religious context, align with their "professed" faith.

Yes, this is definitely on my todo! I have tried some ethical questions with Claude in the past (https://dayafter.substack.com/p/conversations-with-claude) but doing it in a systematic way across a number of different models should provide some new insights.

I also explored what flavors of Buddhism was particularly appealing to LLMs, and the results pointed to Mahāyāna, Nālandā tradition (Śāntideva / Śāntarakṣita line, c. 7th–8th century) and Early Pali Suktas.
